Crispy Tofu Nuggets! Just 6 ingredients for the best tofu nuggets. Enjoy on their own or on top of salads, bowls, wraps, and more. Kid-friendly!

tofu nuggets

It’s no secret that we love tofu! We serve it almost daily to our whole family.

From seasoned pizza tofu cubes (Alex’s son’s favorite!) to air-fried tofu to our tofu nuggets with copy-cat Chik-Fil-A dipping sauce, tofu gets major love in our house.

Recently, a mom friend asked me what my favorite way to serve tofu was, and I responded by sharing this nugget recipe.

It’s simple enough for novice tofu eaters and delicious enough to please every palate.

Tips for Success

The key is tearing the tofu into pieces as this creates more surface texture for the nugget.

The next key is tossing the tofu first in olive oil (or other oil) to allow for the starches and spices to cling to the tofu. You shouldn’t see any visible flour once you put them on the oiled baking rack. Make sure to toss the tofu well to fully absorb the spices.

Bake until crispy and enjoy! We like serving these nuggets with a little honey mustard dipping sauce but you can enjoy them however you like crispy tofu.

Try it on top of salads or bowls, or even tossed with lettuce and Caesar dressing for a wrap!

Prep Time:10 minutes minutes
Cook Time:2 minutes minutes
Servings:3 servings

Equipment

  • 1 Sheet Pan

Ingredients

  • 1 14 ounce block of extra-firm tofu drained and pressed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil divided
  • 2 tablespoons potato starch or corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1-2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1-2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Lightly oil the baking sheet with about 2 teaspoons of the oil. This helps for a crispier tofu.
  • Tear the tofu into bite-size pieces, then place into a bowl. Toss with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil until well-coated.
  • Whisk together the starch, flour, spices and salt. Add to the tofu and toss until well coated, making sure no starch is still visible.
  • Add in a single layer to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, flipping halfway through until crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

This transforms tofu! I do the freeze, thaw, squeeze method. This gets rid of a lot of liquid so I baked only 20 minutes and they are perfection.
